Haemorrhoids or Piles also known locally in India as ( Mulvyadh / Bavasir ) are present in the anal canal since birth. These are blood vessels which offer a padding in the anal canal. However duer to several reasons these can get enlarged and swollen thereby causing pain and discomfort.

Based on degree of intensity of the disorder, haemorrhoids are classified into 4 progressive stages :
Grade 1: No prolapse – Painless bleeding, itching
Grade 2: Prolapse on strain or bowel movement but it retracts upon completion of bowel movement
Grade 3: Prolapse upon on strain but has to be manually pushed back inside
Grade 4: Prolapse along with bleeding. It cannot be retracted manually and hence stays outside permanently
